2023 Nishan Forum on Classical Civilizations

No matter how advanced civilizations become, it is essential that humans reflect upon the era of classical civilizations and pay tribute to the wealth of knowledge that has been accumulated. As an old Chinese saying goes, “All living things should flourish without harming each other; all ways of life should thrive without hindering each other.” Classical civilizations, regardless of geographical location or historical period, are built upon shared human nature, and therefore are common treasures for all humankind. By tracing their footsteps, exploring their secrets, comparing their achievements and characteristics, and interpreting their contemporary values, we can seek answers to global issues and challenges. This is not only the responsibility of world leaders, but also the mission of scholars.

In this context, from September 26th to 28th, 2023, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Shandong Province, Qufu Normal University, Shandong Normal University, and Shandong University of Technology will jointly hold the 2023 Nishan Forum on Classical Civilizations under the framework of the 9th Nishan Forum on World Civilizations and Confucius Cultural Festival.

We cordially invite you, with great respect and admiration for your profound knowledge and exceptional achievements in philosophy/history/Chinese studies/literature, to join us in this forum. Your wise insights and global vision are highly valued and warmly welcomed. We earnestly hope that you can share your valuable insights and contribute to the exchange and mutual learning among classical civilizations. Your works presented at the forum will also be collected and published.

V. Notes:

1. The forum will be held both online and offline. Accommodation, food, and transportation costs for offline participants will be covered by the forum organizers.

2. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to the forum contact person or via phone by July 20, 2023.

3. Confirmed participants are kindly asked to write a paper of over 3,000 words on the forum's topics, and submit it to the email of forum organizers by September 1, 2023.

4. For online participants, please record a video presentation in advance and provide a transcript, which need to be submitted to the email of forum organizers by September 1, 2023.
